Stockport College operates a facility in the Merseyway Shopping Centre known as “The Learning Store”.
The Learning Store opened its doors in 1999 at a kiosk in Adlington Walk. The Store had 8 computers and offered training in IT and computer based courses for people who worked in the retail industry.
By 2001, popularity was such that a strategic decision was made to expand the scope of the Store and move to new premises. The college was successful in bidding for additional project money from the Capital Modernisation Fund and New Opportunities Fund (lottery money) and together with contribution from the college; premises and equipment were then acquired.
The new Store on Vernon Walk (next to the side entrance to Boots) has been open since 8th April 2002. The facility offers a Cyber area with 10 computers and high-speed connection, making it the ideal place to pick up your e-mails or surf the Internet. A further 22 computers are available in our Learning Centre, designed to cater for thousands of new Adult Learners (19+) who are keen to develop new skills, explore all the internet has to offer and generally keep up to date with new technology.
The Store also offers a wide range of Skills for Life courses. Not only are there courses designed to help adults with reading, writing, and number work, but also practical courses on health and fitness, getting a job and helping your children with homework are also available. For people who are thinking of a new career, advice and guidance is available.
There is a café offering hot and cold
drinks, snacks and light meals at great value for money and meeting room facilities
are also available.

Membership is free to all adults wanting to use either our Cyber Area or Learning Centre. A Membership Card will be issued to you and you must bring this with you each time you come to use the facilities.
As the centre is a Stockport College facility, you must abide by the colleges code of conduct, details of which are provided when you become a member.
